Day 7: Flash Floods

Today we returned to Manya Krobo to finish teaching about HIV/AIDS, and start our anemia program. Sometimes Mother Nature has different plans than we do! Kathleen and Cameron were just finishing the last HIV lesson, when it started to absolutely pour buckets. The building we were meeting in had a tin roof, which made it difficult to hear a person standing only a foot away from you, and impossible to conduct a class! I'm learning that in Africa, you just kinda roll with whatever happens, so we had a fabulous time singing, dancing and playing games with the girls instead. It actually ended up being a really fun afternoon!

The kids in Gray Memorial school's 1st grade
loved the donated chalkboards!

We were all in love with this beautiful baby
in Manya Krobo, but Amanda was lucky
enough to get to tote her around in the
African baby wrap.

I thought African women walking around
with things on their heads was a bit of a
stereotype... not so!
Torrential rains! There was a HUGE clap of
thunder and then lightning struck the building
in the background. I'm pretty sure it was the
loudest noise I've ever heard, and we all
screamed appropriately.
We were playing a clapping game called 2,4,6,1,1, when the
thunder sounded and the lightning struck. Bailey snapped
this picture at that exact moment and I think our faces say
it all! (Notice the Ghanaian girl covering her ears :)
Heather gettin' down with the girls. I think they are very
impressed with the way we white people dance :)
Megan learned a gospel song from the
girls, and then  taught them to sing "Love
 One Another".

  1. How sweet is that baby??? Is she an orphan? Or are you guys also working with infants and families?
Hey Hilly! I think I want one of those baby wraps! They look comfy :)
